GANDHINAGAR — In response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for “Economic Self-Defence,” Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat has introduced the “Gujarat Lok Bhavan Initiative” to conserve national resources. These measures prioritize fuel conservation and economic resilience amidst global supply chain disruptions and the West Asia crisis.
Key Austerity Measures:
-
Travel Restrictions: The Governor has suspended all helicopter and air travel within Gujarat, opting for ST buses and trains for official state visits.
-
Leaner Convoys: Despite his Z+ security status, he has ordered his convoy be reduced to the absolute minimum number of vehicles to cut fuel costs.
-
Campus Initiatives: All state university Vice-Chancellors have been directed to observe one “Combustion Engine-Free” day per week, encouraging the use of bicycles and electric vehicles.
-
Consumption Cuts: The initiative includes a goal to reduce edible oil consumption by 10% and a halt on unnecessary government vehicle use.
Governor Devvrat framed these sacrifices as a vital contribution to India’s self-reliance, urging citizens to adopt a “Nation First” mantra to safeguard foreign exchange reserves.
