BENGALURU — Singapore-based international broadcaster Channel News Asia (CNA) has appointed seasoned journalist Shadma Shaikh as its new South Asia Correspondent.
Shaikh will operate out of Bengaluru, where CNA is establishing its very first India bureau to enhance its ground-level reportage of the subcontinent’s rapidly evolving economic and political landscape. Alongside her new broadcast role, Shaikh continues to hold her position as the Co-Founder of FactorDaily, a prominent social-impact-focused digital newsroom.
Focusing on India’s Global Impact
With a career traditionally anchored in deep-tech journalism, Shaikh’s assignment comes at a time when regional dynamics are shifting rapidly. Announcing her move, she emphasized that her reporting will trace how domestic policy pivots influence global narratives. Her core journalistic focus areas will encompass:
-
Deep Tech & Digital Assets: Tracking India’s strategic choices regarding Artificial Intelligence (AI) governance, semiconductor ecosystems, and state-backed digital public infrastructure (DPI).
-
Industrial & Green Shifts: Covering the intersection of large-scale manufacturing expansion, supply chain relocations, and climate-resilient energy transitions.
-
Geopolitics & Healthcare: Documenting India’s evolving diplomatic postures across Asia and its role as a major hub for global healthcare and pharmaceutical innovation.
Strategic Bureau Expansion
By anchoring its fresh South Asia operations in India’s technology capital, CNA aims to capture high-growth business narratives and policy decisions that echo across global markets. The establishment of the Bengaluru bureau signals the network’s commitment to deepening its analytical coverage of the South Asian economic footprint.
