With Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora set to retire on July 31, the contest for the top post is gaining momentum. Arora, a 1988-batch IPS officer from the Tamil Nadu cadre, will vacate the position after a tenure marked by key law and order initiatives in the capital.
This time, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) is expected to appoint a successor from within the AGMUT cadre, breaking away from the earlier trend of selecting officers from outside cadres. The recent transfer of Anil Shukla, a 1995-batch IPS officer and former DGP of Mizoram, to Delhi has sparked speculation, with many viewing it as a strategic move linked to the upcoming appointment.
Two other strong contenders are Satish Golcha and Praveer Ranjan, both 1992-batch AGMUT cadre officers:
Satish Golcha, currently serving as the Director General of Tihar Jail, has previously held the positions of Special Commissioner (Intelligence) in Delhi Police and DGP of Arunachal Pradesh.
Praveer Ranjan, now posted as ADG in CISF, has served as DGP of Chandigarh and Special Commissioner (Crime) in Delhi.
