On the day of his scheduled retirement, Gujarat Director General of Police (DGP) Vikas Sahay received a six-month service extension, allowing him to remain in office until December 31, 2025.
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) approved the extension, citing public interest and referencing a Ministry of Home Affairs memorandum. The order stated that the extension is granted under Rule 16(1) of the All India Services Rules as a special case.
Sahay, a 1989-batch IPS officer, was earlier serving as DGP Training and took charge as in-charge DGP on February 1, 2023. He was made the full-time DGP on March 1, 2023. Notably, Sahay is the third consecutive DGP of Gujarat to be granted an extension. His predecessors Ashish Bhatia and Shivanand Jha also received post-superannuation extensions of eight and three months, respectively.
