The tenure of Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan has been extended till August 22, 2026, according to a government order issued on Friday, July 11, 2025.
Govind Mohan, a 1989 batch IAS officer of the Sikkim cadre, was originally scheduled to retire on September 30, 2025. He was appointed as the Union Home Secretary on August 23, 2024, after serving as Culture Secretary.
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) approved the extension under the provisions of FR 56(d) and Rule 16(1A) of the All India Services (Death-Cum-Retirement Benefits) Rules, 1958. The order specifies that the extension is valid till August 22, 2026, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
