New Delhi, July 21, 2025 — In a significant development, Jagdeep Dhankhar has officially resigned as the Vice President of India, citing health concerns and the need to adhere to medical advice. The resignation comes into effect immediately, in accordance with Article 67(a) of the Indian Constitution.
In his letter addressed to the Hon’ble President of India, Dhankhar expressed deep gratitude for her unwavering support and the “soothing wonderful working relationship” they shared during his tenure. He also extended heartfelt appreciation to the Prime Minister and the Council of Ministers for their cooperation, support, and invaluable contributions to his term in office.
“The warmth, trust, and affection I have received from all the Hon’ble Members of Parliament would ever be cherished and embedded in my memory,” wrote Dhankhar.
Reflecting on his time in office, the former Vice President described it as a privilege to witness India’s “remarkable economic progress” and “unprecedented exponential development”. He noted that serving the country during such a transformative era had been a “true honor.”
As he stepped down, Dhankhar affirmed his pride in India’s rising global stature and expressed strong confidence in the nation’s future.
“I am filled with pride in Bharat’s global rise and phenomenal achievements,” he concluded.
The resignation has stirred a wave of reactions across political circles, with many praising Dhankhar’s service and wishing him a speedy recovery and good health.
The office of the President is yet to officially respond to the resignation. A successor is expected to be named soon in accordance with constitutional provisions.
