In a landmark move aimed at democratizing content consumption, Bollywood star Aamir Khan has announced that his latest family drama ‘Sitaare Zameen Par’ will release on YouTube’s movies-on-demand platform next month, immediately following its successful theatrical run.
Breaking away from traditional digital release strategies, Khan confirmed that the film will be available exclusively on YouTube and will not stream on any other digital platform. Viewers in India will be able to rent the film for ₹100, while audiences in 38 international markets—including the US, UK, Canada, Australia, Germany, Indonesia, and Singapore—will have localized pricing.
‘Sitaare Zameen Par’, which has already crossed ₹250 crores worldwide, stars Aamir Khan, Genelia Deshmukh, and 10 actors with intellectual disabilities. Subtitles and dubs in key languages will ensure the film’s accessibility to a global audience.
Speaking about this pioneering initiative, Khan said:
“My dream is that cinema should reach everyone at a reasonable and affordable price. With the rise of UPI, internet penetration, and YouTube’s vast reach, this is the perfect opportunity to take cinema to every corner of the world.”
Gunjan Soni, YouTube India Country MD, highlighted the platform’s vision:
“This launch marks a significant step in democratizing Indian film distribution globally, offering filmmakers control, flexibility, and unparalleled reach.”
