Shekhar Aiyar, a senior economist currently serving as Assistant Director at the International Monetary Fund (IMF), has been appointed as the new Director and Chief Executive of the Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations (ICRIER). He is slated to join the New Delhi-based think tank in November.
Aiyar currently oversees the IMF’s work program on trade and industrial policy and has a distinguished background, having previously served as the IMF’s mission chief for Germany and head of the Eurozone Division. His professional experience also includes roles as an advisor to the Bank of England and visiting positions at Johns Hopkins University (SAIS) and NCAER. He holds a PhD in Economics from Brown University.
