Predictions indicate that both Uttar Pradesh (UP) and Punjab are anticipating a significant “promotion wave” for their 2015–2020 batch IAS officers by November 2025.
This expected influx of promotions is being driven by ongoing cadre retirements, which are creating vacancies. Nationwide, approximately 21 IAS officers are slated to retire in September 2025, contributing to the estimated 20% cadre gaps that these promotions are expected to fill in UP and Punjab.
