The Hayli Gubbi volcano in Ethiopia’s Afar region erupted on Sunday for the first time in nearly 12,000 years, sending ash plumes over 14 km (45,000 ft) into the sky, which high-level winds carried at speeds of 100-120 km/h across the Red Sea, Yemen, and Oman, eventually entering Indian airspace over Gujarat, Rajasthan, Delhi, Haryana, and Punjab, leading the DGCA to issue advisories and prompting Air India to cancel at least 11 flights for precautionary checks.
