In a significant escalation of trade and energy diplomacy, US President Donald Trump has warned that Washington could further raise tariffs on India if the country continues its significant imports of Russian oil. Speaking to reporters on Air Force One, Trump emphasized that while he maintains a “very good” relationship with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India must align more closely with US interests regarding energy trade with Moscow. The warning follows a year of volatile trade negotiations and substantial tariffs that have already reached 50% on certain Indian goods.
