In a major administrative development on the final day of the year, the Governor of Haryana has appointed Sh. Ajay Singhal, IPS, as the Director General of Police (Head of Police Force), Haryana. A senior officer of the 1992 batch, Mr. Singhal was selected from a shortlist of three officers empanelled by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) on December 31, 2025. His appointment follows the landmark Prakash Singh judgment of the Supreme Court, ensuring a minimum tenure of two years. He succeeds the incumbent leadership to take command of the state’s security apparatus effective immediately.
The Selection Panel (UPSC Empanelment)
The UPSC, via letter dated December 31, 2025, shortlisted three high-ranking officers for the top post:
- Sh. Shatrujeet Singh Kapoor, IPS (HY: 1990): The outgoing/incumbent DGP who was also considered in the panel.
- Sh. Ajay Singhal, IPS (HY: 1992): Selected and appointed as the new DGP.
- Sh. Alok Mittal, IPS (HY: 1993): A senior officer currently serving in a key intelligence/administrative role.
