In the wake of the government’s sweeping action against 25 OTT platforms for streaming obscene and vulgar content, Balaji Telefilms Limited has issued a formal clarification distancing itself from ALTT, one of the banned platforms.
In an official statement titled “To Whomsoever It May Concern”, the company stated that ALTT has been under its operational control only since June 20, 2025, following a court-approved amalgamation with ALT Digital Media Entertainment Ltd., a previously wholly owned subsidiary.
The clarification emphasized that media personalities Ms. Ekta Kapoor and Mrs. Shobha Kapoor are no longer associated with ALTT, having stepped down from all roles in June 2021.
“Contrary to circulating media reports, Ms. Ekta Kapoor and Mrs. Shobha Kapoor are not associated in any capacity whatsoever with ALTT. Any insinuation otherwise is strongly denied. Media is requested to report the accurate facts,” Balaji Telefilms stated.
Following the company’s clarification, Ekta Kapoor also posted the statement on social media with the caption: “To whomsoever it may concern.”
The clarification came after the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting ordered internet service providers to block 25 OTT platforms including ALTT, ULLU, Desiflix, Big Shots App, Boomex, Kangan App, and Bull App, for allegedly streaming pornographic or obscene content.
Balaji Telefilms reaffirmed its commitment to compliance and corporate governance, stating:
“The company is fully compliant with all applicable laws and continues to operate its business with the highest standards of corporate governance.”
This development marks a significant tightening of content regulation in India’s fast-growing OTT space, placing platforms with questionable content under heightened scrutiny.
