Delhi BJP MP Praveen Khandelwal has written to Home Minister Amit Shah urging the renaming of the National Capital Territory of Delhi to ‘Indraprastha’, citing the city’s ancient roots as the capital founded by the Pandavas in the Mahabharata era. Khandelwal also proposed renaming the Old Delhi Railway Station to ‘Indraprastha Junction’ and the international airport to ‘Indraprastha Airport’. The MP argued this change would serve as historical justice, reflect India’s cultural soul, and align with the trend of other cities reclaiming their ancient names, like Ayodhya and Kashi. He further suggested installing grand statues of the Pandavas across the capital to connect new generations with their history, ethics, and courage. A similar demand was recently made by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP). This follows a recent request by former minister Vijay Goel to change the English spelling from ‘Delhi’ to ‘Dilli’.
