Vijay Nehra, a 2001 batch IAS officer of the Gujarat cadre who is currently serving as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (and was previously the Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Finance), is reportedly going to be appointed as the new Secretary General of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC); this appointment to the highest executive position in the world’s largest humanitarian network would be a significant posting for an Indian bureaucrat.
