RAWALPINDI — Former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan has launched a scathing attack on the country’s judicial system, accusing judges of “selling their souls” and facilitating the “inhumane treatment” of his wife, Bushra Bibi, to leverage political pressure against him.
In a message conveyed through his son, Kasim, following the Eid weekend, the incarcerated leader alleged that his wife is being held in total isolation as a form of “blackmail” intended to break his resolve.
Key Allegations and Developments:
-
Isolation in Detention: Khan claims Bushra Bibi is being kept in complete seclusion, with her weekly 30-minute meetings with him frequently denied by authorities.
-
Judicial Criticism: “The judges in this country should be ashamed of themselves,” Khan stated, alleging the judiciary has prioritized personal gain over legal integrity.
-
Health Crisis: The statement comes amid international concern for Khan’s own health. A medical board recently confirmed he is suffering from Central Retinal Vein Occlusion (CRVO), resulting in an 85% loss of vision in his right eye.
-
Global Appeal: Fourteen cricket legends, including Sunil Gavaskar and Kapil Dev, have reportedly written to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif urging “dignity and basic human consideration” for the former captain.
Khan has been imprisoned since August 2023 on various charges. While the Pakistani government maintains his detention is a strictly legal matter, the deteriorating health of the former premier and the alleged treatment of his family have intensified political volatility across the region.
