ISLAMABAD (Feb 13, 2026) — Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has announced that former Prime Minister Imran Khan will be transferred from Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail to a new, specialized facility in Islamabad. The move, expected within two months, follows alarming reports regarding the PTI leader’s rapidly deteriorating health and vision.
Critical Health Alarms
The decision comes after a damning report by Supreme Court-appointed amicus curiae Salman Safdar revealed severe medical neglect:
-
Vision Loss: Reports indicate Khan has lost nearly 85% of vision in his right eye after months of ignored medical complaints.
-
Solitary Confinement: The report alleges “deliberate and inhuman” treatment during prolonged isolation.
-
Supreme Court Intervention: Chief Justice Yahya Afridi has set a February 16 deadline for a comprehensive medical examination, stating that “intervention was necessary.”
The New Facility: Islamabad Jail
Minister Naqvi confirmed that because Khan was convicted by an Islamabad court, he should legally be housed in the capital.
-
Medical Infrastructure: The new jail is being fast-tracked to include dedicated medical facilities to handle Khan’s specialized care.
-
Visitation Rights: The court has also mandated that Khan be allowed to communicate with his children, a right previously restricted.
Government Response
While the opposition and Khan’s legal team accuse the “deep state” of using incarceration to break the leader, PM’s Adviser Rana Sanaullah dismissed claims of negligence. He stated that the government would allow Khan to be examined by any doctor of his choosing, asserting that the opposition is “politicizing” a natural medical issue.
