Jaishankar stated at the HT Leadership Summit that a trade deal between India and the US could “very possibly” become a reality soon, but cautioned that a turnaround in diplomacy is always possible; he affirmed India is negotiating hard to protect the interests of its workers, farmers, and the middle class, particularly against US demands to open the dairy, poultry, and agricultural markets (which include sensitive issues like Genetically Modified (GM) corn and soybeans), which India considers “red lines.”
