The residents of Delhi will soon have access to Bharat Taxi, India’s first cooperative-based ride-hailing service, set to launch on January 1, 2026; operated by the Sahakar Taxi Cooperative Limited, the service will function on a zero-commission model, positioning itself as a direct competitor to aggregators like Ola, Uber, and Rapido; the platform—available on Android and iOS—will offer cars, auto-rickshaws, and bikes with a focus on curbing surge pricing and reducing ride cancellations; notably, the driver-owned cooperative system ensures that drivers receive up to 80% of the fare directly, aiming for higher income and better working conditions; with 56,000 drivers already registered in Delhi, the government plans to expand the service to over 20 cities, with a subsequent launch scheduled for Rajkot, Gujarat on February 1.
