New Delhi, July 22, 2025 — A recent high-profile meeting between Jammu & Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Prime Minister Narendra Modi has triggered speculation in political circles about Sinha being considered for the post of Vice President of India.
The meeting, which was held at the Prime Minister’s residence, comes at a time when the position of Vice President is in focus following Jagdeep Dhankhar’s resignation on health grounds. While there is no official confirmation, sources suggest Manoj Sinha’s name has gained traction within the BJP’s top leadership as a strong, acceptable candidate for the second-highest constitutional office.
A former Union Minister of State for Railways and a seasoned BJP leader from Uttar Pradesh, Sinha is known for his administrative acumen, clean image, and ability to maintain political balance. Since his appointment as the LG of Jammu & Kashmir in 2020, he has overseen significant developments in the region’s post-Article 370 reorganization phase.
His selection as a potential Vice Presidential nominee would also align with the BJP’s focus on rewarding loyal, technocratic leadership and reinforcing its outreach in both northern India and strategic regions like J&K.
Sources close to the matter indicate that the final decision may be announced soon, with the ruling party seeking a consensus candidate ahead of the upcoming Vice Presidential election.
If confirmed, Manoj Sinha’s elevation would mark a significant transition from gubernatorial responsibilities in J&K to the constitutional role of Vice President and ex-officio Chairman of the Rajya Sabha.
