A massive political row has erupted in Punjab after the Centre announced plans to introduce the Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill 2025 in the Winter Session, which aims to bring the Union Territory of Chandigarh under the direct regulatory purview of the President of India (Article 240); the move, which would shift governance from the current Administrator (the Punjab Governor), has been unanimously slammed as “anti-Punjab” by political leaders, including CM Bhagwant Mann and opposition chiefs Arvind Kejriwal, Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, and Sukhbir Singh Badal.
