MENLO PARK – Monika Bickert, Meta’s long-standing head of global content policy, is set to depart the social media giant after 14 years. Bickert, who joined the company (then Facebook) in 2012, will transition to a new role at Harvard Law School later this year.
According to an internal memo, Bickert will remain at Meta until August 2026 to ensure a smooth transition. She will work closely with Kevin Martin, who currently oversees Meta’s global policy team, to hand over her responsibilities.
A Legacy of High-Stakes Policy
A former federal prosecutor, Bickert has been the public face of Meta during its most significant regulatory and ethical challenges. Her tenure included:
-
Content Enforcement: Overseeing the development and implementation of rules governing speech for billions of users.
-
Safety & Youth: Leading the company’s response to intense scrutiny over child safety and “kids’ content” controls.
-
Political Neutrality: Managing the platform’s controversial policies regarding political advertising and election integrity.
Bickert’s departure marks a major shift in Meta’s executive ranks as the company continues to navigate global pressure over AI-generated content and platform accountability.
