Microsoft has announced a major internal restructuring, naming Chief Commercial Officer Judson Althoff as Chief Executive of its Commercial Business.
This move is designed to unify the company’s sales, marketing, and operations under a single new commercial organization led by Althoff.
The reorganization, as detailed by CEO Satya Nadella, is necessary to allow him and engineering leaders to become “laser focused” on the company’s “highest ambition technical work,” which includes datacentre buildout, systems architecture, AI research, and product innovation.
Nadella stated that the company is in the midst of a “tectonic AI platform shift.” The restructuring reflects Microsoft’s drive to expand its capabilities in artificial intelligence, following its significant investment in OpenAI and the widespread integration of Copilot features across its product lines (Microsoft 365, Windows, and Azure).
