NEW DELHI — Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a crucial meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) on Sunday to assess and mitigate the economic and strategic impact of the ongoing war in Iran.
The Prime Minister emphasized that as the conflict evolves, the government’s primary focus must be safeguarding Indian citizens from potential disruptions in energy and essential commodity supplies.
Strategic Directives and Decisions:
-
Energy Security: The CCS directed power plants to maintain adequate coal stocks to prevent electricity shortages. The government is also working to diversify import sources for petrochemicals and fuel.
-
Agriculture & Food Security: Plans were finalized to ensure a steady supply of fertilizers for farmers. The committee discussed securing alternative global sources for fertilizers to stabilize food prices.
-
Economic Resilience: A special group of Ministers and Secretaries has been formed to monitor the impact on MSMEs, shipping, and global supply chains.
-
Trade Expansion: To counter regional instability, India will actively pursue new export destinations for its goods.
