Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday inaugurated the long-awaited “Yellow Line” of the Bangalore Metro Rail, aimed at easing traffic congestion in key IT corridors.
The 19-km stretch from RV Road (Ragigudda) to Bommasandra, part of the Metro Phase-2 project worth ₹7,160 crore, has 16 stations and will expand Bengaluru’s operational metro network to over 96 km.
PM Modi also took a metro ride from RV Road to Electronic City station, interacting with students during the journey.
The new line is expected to decongest busy routes such as Hosur Road, Silk Board Junction, and Electronics City Junction. Initially, three train sets will operate at 25-minute intervals, with frequency set to increase to every 10 minutes.
The event was attended by Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Union Ministers Manohar Lal Khattar and Shobha Karandlaje, and Deputy CM D K Shivakumar.
