Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially kicked off his Bihar assembly poll campaign on Friday with major rallies in Samastipur and Begusarai, asserting that the NDA coalition, led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, will surpass all previous electoral records.
Attacking the Opposition
PM Modi launched a sharp attack on the opposition INDIA bloc, mockingly terming it “Mahalathbandhan” (a tie-up where people beat each other with sticks). He heavily criticized the two largest constituents, RJD and Congress, calling their leaders the “most corrupt and out on bail.”
He further alleged that these parties showed arrogance by alienating partners like JMM and allegedly misleading the Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP) founder, Mukesh Sahni, by promising him the Deputy CM post despite an unfavorable seat-sharing outcome.
During his speeches, in a direct dig at the RJD’s lantern symbol, PM Modi asked crowds to light up their mobile phones, stating, “When there is so much light all around, there is no need for the lantern.”
Highlighting NDA Cohesion and Development
At the Samastipur rally, Modi contrasted the NDA’s cohesiveness, pointing to the presence of Nitish Kumar (JD(U)), Chirag Paswan (LJP), Jitan Ram Manjhi (HAM), and Upendra Kushwaha (RLM).
In Begusarai, he highlighted development:
Central assistance to Bihar in the last 11 years is three times what the previous government provided.
Bihar has shifted from dependence to exporting fish and giving its Makhana wide market access.
He contrasted the current situation with the past ‘jungle raj,’ referencing the alleged diversion of funds where “only 15 paise reached the people.”
He claimed credit for breaking the backbone of Maoist insurgency in the state since 2014.
Historic Context and Women Voters
Modi also invoked the alleged mistreatment of former Congress President Sitaram Kesri by the “parivaar” (Nehru-Gandhi family) as an example of the Congress’s character. He urged women voters, whom he called the “worst sufferers of ‘jungle raj’,” to reject the Congress and RJD, reminding them that the parties opposed the women’s reservation bill in Parliament.
The Bihar Assembly polls for the 243-member house are scheduled in two phases on November 6 and 11, with results announced on November 14. The PM expressed confidence that the NDA would break all previous electoral records in the state, drawing parallels to recent wins in Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Haryana.
