Prime Minister Narendra Modi is chairing a high-level, closed-door selection committee meeting, which includes Union Home Minister Amit Shah (nominated Union Minister) and the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, to recommend the appointments for the vacant post of Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) and fill eight vacant positions for Information Commissioners (IC) at the Central Information Commission (CIC); the CIC has been functioning with only two ICs and has been headless since the former CIC, Heeralal Samariya, demitted office on September 13, 2025.
