In a major shift in India’s internal security leadership, Mr. Praveen Kumar, a 1993-batch IPS officer of the West Bengal cadre, has been appointed as the Director General (DG) of the Border Security Force (BSF). Mr. Kumar, who was previously serving as the DG of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), brings extensive experience in border management and counter-insurgency to the role. His appointment comes at a critical time for the BSF, the world’s largest border-guarding force, as it manages increasingly complex security challenges along India’s borders with Pakistan and Bangladesh.
