New Delhi: President Droupadi Murmu has nominated four distinguished individuals to the Rajya Sabha, filling the vacancies created by the retirement of previously nominated members. The nominations have been made under Article 80(1)(a) clause (3) of the Constitution, which empowers the President to nominate members with special knowledge or practical experience in literature, science, art, and social service.
The newly nominated members are:
1. Ujjwal Nikam – Renowned government prosecutor, known for handling high-profile criminal cases including the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks.
2. C. Sadanandan Master – Veteran social worker and educationist from Kerala.
3. Harsh Vardhan Shringla – Former Foreign Secretary of India, with extensive experience in diplomacy and international relations.
4. Meenakshi Jain – Eminent historian and academician, recognized for her contributions to Indian historical research.
These appointments bring a wealth of experience and expertise to the Upper House of Parliament, enriching legislative discussions and national policymaking.
