Satish Kumar, the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Railway Board, is scheduled to superannuate in August 2026. A veteran 1986-batch officer of the Indian Railway Service of Mechanical Engineers (IRSME), Kumar took the helm of the national transporter during a period of significant infrastructure modernization. Current administrative indications suggest that he is not expected to receive an extension beyond his retirement date, set for the end of August. This paves the way for the government to begin the selection process for the next top bureaucrat to lead the world’s fourth-largest rail network.
