Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader and Grand Alliance chief ministerial face, Tejashwi Yadav, announced a major financial aid scheme for women just two days before the first phase of voting in the Bihar elections.
- The Scheme: Yadav promised to provide the entire annual financial aid of Rs 30,000 to women under the ‘Mai Bahin Maan Yojana’.
- Payout Details: The full amount will be deposited into the accounts of women on Makar Sankranti (January 14), a shift from the earlier manifesto promise of Rs 2,500 monthly. This is an effort to counter the ruling NDA’s ‘Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana’.
- Other Promises: The announcement also included a promise of a bonus over MSP for farmers (Rs 300 per quintal for paddy and Rs 400 for wheat), the implementation of the Old Pension Scheme (OPS), and ensuring the transfer and posting of government employees (teachers, police, healthcare) within a 70-kilometre radius of their home district.
- Election Context: Polling in Bihar is scheduled for November 6 and 11, with results on November 14.
