In a significant reshuffle at the top of Delhi’s law enforcement hierarchy, Shashi Bhushan Kumar Singh (SBK Singh) was appointed as the Commissioner of Delhi Police, effective August 1, 2025. The announcement by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) came just hours before the retirement of outgoing Commissioner Sanjay Arora, and has raised eyebrows in administrative and policing circles.
Singh, a 1988-batch IPS officer of the AGMUT cadre, superseded other contenders for the post—most notably Satish Golcha, a 1992-batch IPS officer who was widely speculated to be the frontrunner. Golcha, known for his operational efficiency and close associations with high-profile officers such as Jammu and Kashmir DGP R.R. Swain, was considered a strong candidate.
