MIAMI – US President Donald Trump has claimed that Iran’s newly named Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, may have been killed or severely incapacitated following American military operations.
Speaking at the Future Investment Initiative Priority Summit in Miami, President Trump asserted that the Iranian leadership structure has been effectively dismantled. “The supreme leader is no longer supreme; he is dead,” Trump stated, referring to the successor of Ali Khamenei. He further suggested that Mojtaba is “either dead or in very bad shape.”
The claims follow the death of the previous Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, in strikes on February 28. While Tehran quickly announced Mojtaba as his successor, the new leader has not made a public appearance since the announcement. President Trump highlighted this absence, noting that US strikes have “crushed” Iran’s military capabilities, including its navy, air force, and drone factories.
Despite these claims of a leadership vacuum, some reports suggest Iranian military units continue to operate, though potentially without a unified central command. Meanwhile, Trump alleged that the Iranian government is now “begging to make a deal” as the conflict continues to weaken the nation’s infrastructure.
