THIRUVANANTHAPURAM – Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh delivered a formidable warning to Pakistan on Thursday, stating that any future “misadventure” or state-sponsored terrorism would trigger an “unprecedented and decisive” response from India.
Speaking at the Sainik Samman Sammelan in Kerala, the Minister highlighted India’s shifted security paradigm under the current administration, emphasizing a zero-tolerance policy toward cross-border terrorism.
Key Highlights from the Address:
-
Legacy of Operation Sindoor: Minister Singh referenced Operation Sindoor, India’s swift retaliation to the April 2025 Pahalgam terror attack (which claimed 26 lives). He noted that Indian forces neutralized terror infrastructure within 22 minutes, marking it as the largest anti-terror operation to date.
-
Warning of Escalation: “The operation is not over yet,” Singh asserted. He warned that if “dirty actions” are repeated, the Indian Armed Forces would provide a “befitting reply” that the neighbor would never forget.
-
Shift in National Security: Comparing current policies to previous administrations, the Minister claimed that while terror attacks were once rampant without significant retaliation, the NDA government has dismantled the “wait-and-watch” approach in favor of proactive strikes.
-
Cross-Border Resolve: Singh reaffirmed India’s commitment to strike at the roots of terrorism, regardless of which side of the border they reside on, citing the precedents of Uri, Pulwama, and Pahalgam.
Strategic Context
The Defence Minister’s comments come amid heightened regional tensions and follow the one-year anniversary of the Pahalgam incident. His statement reinforces India’s stance that any breach of national security will be met with immediate and overwhelming military force.
