HOUSTON / NEW DELHI – Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has predicted that the rapid expansion of AI infrastructure in India will mirror the “incredible” job creation seen during the country’s internet revolution. Speaking at the 3DExperience World event in Houston on February 4, 2026, Huang emphasized that the impact of data centres extends far beyond the tech sector, touching every level of the industrial workforce.
His comments follow a massive policy boost in India’s Budget 2026, where Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced a tax holiday until 2047 for foreign companies utilizing Indian-built data centres.
The “Gigantic” Derivative Workforce
Huang dismantled the myth that data centres are merely automated “server farms” with few employees. He argued that the “upstream” and “downstream” economic ripples are where the true employment scale lies.
-
Construction & Infrastructure: A single facility can employ 5,000 to 10,000 people during development, including electricians, plumbers, architects, and project managers.
-
Supply Chain Impact: The demand for raw materials—pipes, concrete, and advanced cooling systems—fuels local manufacturing and logistics.
-
The “Startup Tier”: Huang noted that once operational, these hubs become the bedrock for new AI startups that build services on top of the infrastructure, creating high-value tech roles.
“Look at the internet of India. The amount of jobs it has created… is incredible. Artificial Intelligence can do exactly the same thing,” Huang stated during the press conference.
India as a Global Data Hub
The Indian government is positioning the country as a global alternative to traditional data hubs in Singapore and the West. Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw reinforced this vision, stating that data centres will allow India to “provide new services to the world.”
Major Investments in Play (as of Feb 2026):
-
Google: Currently deploying a $15 billion AI data centre project in Andhra Pradesh.
-
Microsoft & Amazon: Collectively pouring billions into the Hyderabad and Pune clusters.
-
Nvidia’s Role: Nvidia recently partnered with Reliance Industries and the Tata Group to build sovereign AI supercomputers in India, utilizing the H100 and Blackwall architectures.
The Budget 2026 Incentive
The newly announced tax holiday until 2047 is a “game-changer” for the sector. By exempting foreign companies from certain taxes if they process their data within Indian borders, the government aims to:
-
Incentivize “Data Sovereignty”: Encouraging global firms to store and process Indian data locally.
-
Reduce Latency: Improving AI performance for the domestic market.
-
Boost Real Estate: Spurring demand for specialized industrial parks.
