NEW DELHI – Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a high-level virtual meeting with Chief Ministers and Lieutenant Governors on Friday to fortify India’s response to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
Emphasizing a “Team India” spirit, the Prime Minister reviewed the nation’s preparedness regarding supply chain disruptions, energy security, and the availability of essential commodities. He drew parallels to the collective coordination seen during the COVID-19 pandemic, urging states to maintain administrative alertness to prevent hoarding and profiteering.
Key directives from the meeting include:
-
Supply Chain Monitoring: Activating state and district-level control rooms to ensure the smooth flow of goods.
-
Agricultural Planning: Ensuring fertilizer storage and distribution are prioritized ahead of the Kharif season.
-
Citizen Support: Establishing helplines and nodal officers in states with large diaspora populations in the Gulf.
-
Countering Misinformation: Strengthening the dissemination of credible information to prevent public panic and online fraud.
The Prime Minister noted that an Inter-Ministerial Group has been conducting daily reviews since March 3 to adapt to the dynamic situation. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also briefed the leaders on federal measures, including the stabilization of LPG supplies and reductions in fuel excise duties.
