MUMBAI – Sandeep Ghosh, the Group Country Manager for India and South Asia at Visa, has resigned after a four-year tenure. He is moving on to pursue an external opportunity, marking the end of a significant chapter for the global payments leader in the region.
Tenure and Impact
Since joining Visa in March 2022, Ghosh has been instrumental in navigating India’s explosive digital payments growth.
-
Strategic Growth: He spearheaded efforts to deepen Visa’s footprint amidst the rise of UPI and increasing competition from local players like RuPay.
-
Partnerships: Ghosh focused on strengthening ties with traditional banks and emerging fintech firms to drive credit inclusion and digital empowerment.
-
Regional Oversight: Beyond India, he managed Visa’s operations in Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan, and the Maldives.
Succession Plan
A Visa spokesperson confirmed that a successor has already been identified to ensure a smooth transition. While the specific name has not yet been officially disclosed, an announcement is expected shortly.
In May 2024, the company had previously appointed Sujai Raina as the Country Manager for India to work alongside Ghosh; it remains to be seen if the new Group Country Manager will be an internal elevation or an external hire for the 2026-27 fiscal year.
