NEW DELHI — In an aggressive move to thwart a high-voltage demonstration called by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), the Delhi Police and the Union Home Ministry have placed the National Capital under a virtual security lockdown. The youth-led political group had planned to gather at Jantar Mantar on Saturday, October 10, demanding the immediate resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over electoral roll revisions.
However, law enforcement authorities officially denied permission for the rally, citing procedural non-compliance and public safety risks. Prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) are now enforced across central and sensitive districts in Delhi.
Unprecedented Security Deployment
To prevent demonstrators from marching toward central government hubs, authorities have deployed a heavy, multi-layered force. Over 23,000 security personnel have been posted across borders and urban transit points.
The security framework includes 221 Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) companies sanctioned by the Ministry of Home Affairs alongside 110 additional companies provided directly to local police. The force comprises:
-
85 CRPF companies
-
10 SSB companies
-
7 ITBP companies
-
7 RAF companies
-
1 CISF company
Surveillance has been scaled up with CCTV monitoring and advanced Face Recognition System (FRS) cameras installed at primary checkpoints. State authorities in neighboring Uttar Pradesh and Haryana have also been asked to stay on high alert to stop incoming buses and groups of activists.
Massive Commuter Friction: Metro and Rail Operations Restricted
The preventative measures are set to cause widespread transport disruptions for millions across the National Capital Region (NCR):
-
57 Metro Stations Restricted: Access to 57 stations will be strictly regulated, with entry and exit gates closed starting at 9 PM on Friday, October 9. Major transit and interchange hubs, including Rajiv Chowk, Central Secretariat, New Delhi, Mandi House, Kashmere Gate, Hauz Khas, INA, and Lajpat Nagar, will face heavy curbs, accompanied by reduced train frequencies.
-
61 Trains Cancelled: Indian Railways has cancelled 61 Delhi-bound train services between Friday and Saturday (40 on Friday, 21 on Saturday). Cancellations heavily target trains arriving at New Delhi Railway Station and Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station between 4 AM and 2 PM on Saturday, halting trains directly at their station of origin.
Delhi Police have reiterated that any attempt to assemble or violate orders under BNSS Section 163 will result in strict legal action and immediate detention.
