MUMBAI — Pharmaceutical major Cipla Limited has announced a major executive transition, appointing Shivam Puri as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of its flagship One India Business. According to the company’s official regulatory filing with the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), the leadership appointment is slated to take effect on July 1, 2026.
Puri will transition into this consolidated domestic leadership role from his current position as the Managing Director and CEO of Cipla Health Limited, a wholly owned consumer healthcare subsidiary of the company.
Driving Consumer Healthcare and Operational Scaling
Puri’s elevation to head the core domestic business comes on the back of a highly successful tenure leading Cipla’s wellness portfolio:
-
The Cipla Health Transformation: Since taking the helm of Cipla Health in 2019, Puri has been instrumental in scaling the division from a nascent startup venture into one of India’s premier fast-moving wellness goods companies. Over his seven-year stewardship, he systematically expanded the company’s footprint across critical categories including smoking cessation, pain management, cough and cold remedies, skincare, and specialized nutrition.
-
Dual-Sector Expertise: With a career spanning over 23 years, Puri brings a rare combination of commercial acumen that bridges both the Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) sector and specialized healthcare delivery.
-
Corporate Track Record: Prior to joining the Cipla ecosystem in 2019, Puri built a robust leadership portfolio by directing high-level commercial strategies at top-tier consumer corporations, including Hindustan Unilever Limited (HUL), Jubilant FoodWorks Limited, and ITC Limited.
Strategic Impact on Domestic Market Share
By placing an FMCG veteran at the apex of its One India Business, Cipla signals a definitive strategic shift toward aggressive consumer-centric market penetration. Puri’s mandate will center on leveraging his deep understanding of Indian consumer behavior to drive distribution efficiencies, optimize prescription-to-OTC (over-the-counter) pathways, and consolidate Cipla’s multi-channel dominance in the highly competitive domestic pharmaceutical landscape.
