GUWAHATI – Sujata Gurung Chowdhury, mother of Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) candidate Kunki Chowdhury, has filed a formal complaint with the National Commission for Women (NCW) against Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. The complaint alleges that the Chief Minister made “false, defamatory, and malicious” statements against her during the ongoing Assam Assembly election campaign.
Chowdhury, who identifies as a private individual with no role in politics, claims the Chief Minister misled the public by suggesting her social media activity hurt religious sentiments and falsely accusing her of consuming beef. She clarified that a photograph used by the CM as “evidence” actually showed her posing with an artistic pillow at the International Church of Cannabis in Denver, USA—a fact later confirmed by the museum’s ministry. The complaint further highlights the mental distress caused by the subsequent online harassment and the unauthorized circulation of photos involving her minor son.
