NEW DELHI — In a move to capture prime-time television and digital audiences with interactive, educational news formats, Hindi news giant News18 India has officially announced the launch of its new flagship show, ‘Desh Ki Pathshala’.
The high-profile show will be anchored by prominent senior journalist Sushant Sinha and is scheduled to broadcast daily at 8:50 PM IST starting June 16, 2026.
Redefining Prime-Time Hindi News Formats
‘Desh Ki Pathshala’ (translated as “The Nation’s Classroom”) deliberately moves away from the loud, multi-panel debate structures that dominate current Hindi news television. Instead, the program focuses on deep-dive explanatory journalism built around a core editorial concept: “Khabar sirf batane ke liye nahin, samjhaane ke liye bhi hoti hai” (News is not merely meant to be reported, but to be understood).
To achieve this, the production relies heavily on visual data storytelling:
-
Multi-Platform Delivery: The show will bypass traditional broadcast limitations by launching simultaneously across linear TV, Connected TV (CTV) ecosystems, and YouTube to target both cord-cutters and traditional viewers.
-
Visual Architecture: Rather than focusing on talking heads, the daily segments will be constructed using interactive maps, historical timelines, and data-driven infographics to unpack layered geopolitical, socioeconomic, and scientific developments.
Leadership Perspectives on the Strategic Move
“In a media landscape cluttered with noise, we are building a show that stands for depth and rigour. We are confident that this show helmed by Sushant will not only strengthen our prime-time offering but will set a new benchmark for explanatory journalism in Hindi news television.” — Jyoti Kamal, Managing Editor, News18 India
Sushant Sinha, known for his distinct presentation style and significant digital following, emphasized the democratization of information as his primary goal for the new venture:
-
The Content Focus: The daily canvas will systematically break down complex government policies, shifts in international geography, and historical precedents.
-
The Demographic Strategy: “We live in times when information is abundant but understanding is rare,” Sinha stated. “I want a student watching from a small town to feel just as informed as someone inside a policy room. That is the promise of this show.”
