JioStar has restructured key leadership roles within its entertainment advertising sales team following the departure of senior executive Prashant Shetty, who exited the merged media entity to join Zee Entertainment Enterprises Limited (ZEEL) as Head – Advertisement Revenue (Broadcast & Digital).
To maintain operational continuity and leverage internal expertise, JioStar has expanded the mandate of Pavithra KR, Executive Vice President (Entertainment Ad Sales), who will now absorb Shetty’s portfolio—including the strategically crucial Free-to-Air (FTA) General Entertainment Channel (GEC) sales division—alongside her existing responsibilities across Hindi Movies, Kids, Niche, and Youth Music Entertainment (YME).
In a parallel internal move, Seethalakshmi Iyer, Senior Vice President (Entertainment Ad Sales – Tamil & Malayalam), will take over Pavithra’s former portfolio covering the Kids, Movies, and MTV verticals while continuing to lead regional sales in Southern markets.
Executive Mandate Breakdown
-
Prashant Shetty: Exits JioStar to join ZEEL as Head – Advertisement Revenue (Broadcast & Digital), reporting to Sandeep Mehrotra, COO – Advertisement Revenue.
-
Pavithra KR (EVP): Assumes charge of Free-to-Air (FTA) GEC sales in addition to her existing Hindi Movies, Kids, Niche, and YME portfolio.
-
Seethalakshmi Iyer (SVP): Expands regional Tamil and Malayalam mandate to absorb national ad sales for Kids, Movies, and MTV channels.
Corporate Context & Strategic Rationale
-
Post-Merger Integration: The sales realignment comes as JioStar continues streamlining commercial operations following the consolidation of Disney Star and Viacom18 assets into a unified broadcast and digital network.
-
ZEEL Expansion Strategy: At ZEEL, Prashant Shetty will lead linear television and Zee5 streaming monetization, accelerating revenue growth and building an integrated cross-platform advertising strategy.
-
Commercial Importance of FTA GEC: Adding FTA GEC ad sales to Pavithra KR’s purview ensures focused execution in mass-market distribution channels, a vital segment for FMCG, retail, and consumer durables advertisers ahead of upcoming festive cycles.
