JIND — In a landmark day for India’s clean energy transition and regional infrastructure development, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Haryana this Friday. The Prime Minister will flag off the nation’s inaugural hydrogen-powered passenger train and launch a massive portfolio of developmental projects valued at approximately ₹14,700 crore at the Eklavya Stadium in Jind.
Following his engagements in Haryana, the Prime Minister will continue his multi-state tour to Chandigarh and Jalandhar, Punjab, to inaugurate and lay the foundation stones for additional projects totaling over ₹10,170 crore.
Green Rail Mobility: Debut of the Hydrogen Fleet
The centerpiece of the visit is the official launch of India’s first indigenous Hydrogen Fuel Cell Trainset, placing the country into an elite global club of nations utilizing onboard clean-hydrogen rail propulsion:
-
The Jind–Sonipat Corridor: The train will run along an 89-km stretch connecting Jind and Sonipat, operating without the need for traditional continuous overhead electrification infrastructure.
-
High-Capacity Engineering: Featuring a 10-coach configuration, the train stands out as one of the longest and most powerful hydrogen-powered passenger trainsets globally, driven by a high-capacity 3,200 HP propulsion system.
-
Environmental Impact: By replacing conventional diesel assets, the zero-emission train generates its own electricity onboard via hydrogen fuel cells, discharging only water vapor as a by-product while substantially lowering noise pollution.
Mega Highway and Urban Transit Deployments
A major share of the ₹14,700 crore capital outlay is dedicated to transforming regional connectivity and decongesting crucial transit channels:
-
Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway (Greenfield): The PM will launch a 157.92 km long, four-lane, fully access-controlled section (packages 1 to 5) built at a cost of around ₹9,680 crore. The mega-corridor will eventually slash travel times from Delhi to Katra from 14 hours to 6 hours, and Delhi to Amritsar from 8 hours to 4 hours.
-
Ambala-Kala Amb & Jind-Gohana Highways: The 33.81 km four-lane Ambala-Kala Amb Highway (NH-7 & NH-344) will be opened to seamlessly link industrial zones across Haryana and Himachal Pradesh. Additionally, the 40.60 km Jind-Gohana Greenfield Highway (NH-352A) will cut travel time between the two hubs from two hours down to just 40 minutes.
-
Kurukshetra Elevated Railway Track: In a vital urban infrastructure upgrade, the PM will dedicate the new elevated rail corridor designed to permanently eliminate severe bottleneck congestion at key inner-city railway crossings.
Healthcare and Cultural Additions
Beyond transport logistics, the central layout establishes critical expansions in public health education and cultural preservation:
-
Medical College Dedications: The Prime Minister will formally dedicate two major institutions to the public: the Pandit Neki Ram Sharma Government Medical College in Bhiwani and the Maharishi Chyawan Medical College and Rao Tula Ram Hospital in Koriawas, Narnaul. The facilities are set to scale up available MBBS seats and regional specialist care.
-
Sikh Museum at Kurukshetra: The foundation stone will be laid for a specialized cultural museum intended to archive and celebrate the history, teachings, sacrifices, and civilizational contributions of the Sikh Gurus and the wider community.
