In a strategic move to bolster India’s global trade ambitions, Mr. Darpan Jain, a seasoned 2001 batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the Karnataka cadre, has been appointed as the Chief Trade Negotiator. Previously serving as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Jain brings a wealth of experience in managing international trade relations and commerce policy. His appointment is critical as India navigates complex Free Trade Agreement (FTA) negotiations with major economies including the UK, European Union, and Canada in 2026.
