In a sweeping administrative overhaul ahead of the Assembly elections, the West Bengal Government has appointed senior IPS officer Peeyush Pandey as the Director General and Inspector General of Police (DGP), in an acting capacity. A 1993-batch officer of the West Bengal cadre, Pandey succeeds Rajeev Kumar, who retired today, January 31, 2026. Prior to this elevation, Pandey served as the Director (Security), responsible for the Chief Minister’s VVIP protection. His appointment is part of a larger restructuring that also sees Supratim Sarkar taking over as the new Kolkata Police Commissioner, replacing Manoj Kumar Verma.
