NEW DELHI — In a targeted diplomatic update, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has announced new assignments for two career diplomats. While these appointments strengthen India’s presence in South America and the Pacific, officials noted they are “peripheral” shifts and not part of a larger general reshuffle.
New Envoy to Ecuador
Anita Shukla, a career diplomat from the 2006 batch of the Indian Foreign Service (IFS), has been appointed as India’s next Ambassador to the Republic of Ecuador.

Current Role: Prior to this appointment, she served as Joint Secretary at the Sushma Swaraj Institute of Foreign Service (SSIFS) in New Delhi.
Expanded Pacific Mandate
Suneet Mehta, the current High Commissioner of India to Fiji, has been concurrently accredited as the next High Commissioner to the Kingdom of Tonga.

Profile: A 2007-batch IFS officer and a qualified Chartered Accountant, Mehta will continue to reside in Suva.
