GUWAHATI – Ahead of the high-stakes counting scheduled for Monday, May 4, Assam Congress chief Gaurav Gogoi has dismissed exit poll predictions favoring the BJP. Speaking with confidence, Gogoi asserted that the actual mandate lies within the EVMs and will reflect a public desire for “transformation.”
Dismissing the Projections
Gogoi downplayed the significance of media-led projections, emphasizing that the party is focused on the official results rather than televised speculation.
“Exit polls are primarily for television discussions. What matters to us is the verdict given by the people of Assam through the EVMs,” Gogoi told NDTV.
Key Concerns & Allegations
While expressing optimism, the Congress leader highlighted several grievances regarding the electoral process:
-
EVM Handling: Gogoi claimed the party has received numerous complaints from candidates across the state regarding the handling of Electronic Voting Machines.
-
Strong Room Security: Drawing parallels to concerns raised in West Bengal, he noted that the Congress has documented these issues and is raising them before the appropriate authorities.
-
A “Silent” Vote: He believes a “silent” wave of voters has turned out in favor of the Congress-led alliance, a shift he claims the BJP has failed to sense.
Election Outlook
The state is currently in a state of high tension as it awaits the official tally on May 4. While exit polls suggest a return for the BJP-led government, Gogoi maintains that the people of Assam have voted “strongly and silently” for change.
With both major alliances claiming momentum, Monday’s results will determine if the “Gujarat Model” of dynamic development cited by central leaders or Gogoi’s “transformation” narrative has resonated more with the electorate.
