KOLKATA — The West Bengal administration has issued a fresh round of personnel orders, repositioning veteran bureaucrats to handle high-stakes portfolios in the state’s executive and transport wings.
Raj Bhavan’s New Administrative Head
Leading the changes is Dr. Saumitra Mohan, a 2002-batch IAS officer, who has been officially named Secretary to the Governor of West Bengal. Dr. Mohan, a prominent face in the state’s cadre, will now be responsible for the management and coordination of the Governor’s office, a role that acts as a vital bridge between the Raj Bhavan and the state government.
Double Duty for Surendra Gupta
The reshuffle also intensifies the responsibilities of Surendra Gupta (1997 batch). Already serving as the Divisional Commissioner for the Presidency Division, Gupta has been handed the additional mandate of Principal Secretary to the Transport Department.
This move places one of the state’s most senior officials at the helm of West Bengal’s transit strategy, suggesting a focus on streamlining transport operations while maintaining regional administrative oversight.
