LUCKNOW — Union Home Minister Amit Shah issued a direct challenge to opposition figures Rahul Gandhi and Akhilesh Yadav to engage in a dedicated parliamentary debate over electoral roll revisions, speaking during a major party conference in Uttar Pradesh.
The announcement comes as opposition parties organize widespread demonstrations challenging the Special Intensive Revision process overseen by Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Opposition representatives have repeatedly called for halting the ongoing administrative updates and reverting to prior voter registries, alleging widespread and unauthorized record deletions across several states.
Addressing party delegates, the Home Minister rejected claims of procedural irregularities and maintained that the government is fully prepared to convene an extraordinary legislative sitting to resolve the dispute. He urged opposition leaders to bring their grievances to the floor of Parliament rather than relying on public rallies, signaling an intensifying confrontation over election administration and voter data management ahead of the upcoming state legislative assembly elections.
