KHAMMAM — Setting an early tone for the next political cycle, Telangana Chief Minister Shri A. Revanth Reddy has predicted a decisive second consecutive term for the Congress party in the state’s 2029 Assembly elections.
Addressing a gathering of party workers in Khammam, the Chief Minister confidently asserted that the ruling party would cross the 115-seat mark in an expanded state assembly, directly challenging the opposition Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS).
The Delimitation Math and Projections
The Chief Minister’s projections are anchored on the anticipated post-2026 delimitation exercise, which is expected to structurally redraw and expand the legislative boundaries of Telangana:
-
Assembly Expansion: The number of state Assembly constituencies is projected to rise from the current 119 seats to 182 seats.
-
Lok Sabha Expansion: The state’s parliamentary representation is expected to grow from 17 seats to 26 seats.
-
Target Threshold: Out of the projected 182 seats, Reddy boldly urged journalists to “write this down” that the Congress will secure a majority of over 115 seats.
Countering the BRS Anti-Incumbency Claims
The Chief Minister’s strong rhetoric functions as a direct counter-offensive to earlier statements made by BRS Working President K. T. Rama Rao (KTR). Hours prior, KTR had claimed that an internal survey commissioned by the state government pointed toward growing anti-incumbency mid-way through the Congress’s tenure.
KTR asserted that if polls were conducted immediately, the BRS would bounce back to win 78 seats, signaling a strong public desire for the return of former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao. Dismissing these claims, Revanth Reddy launched a sharp critique against the KCR family, stating that July 10, 2026, marks the definitive starting point of the Congress’s campaign to secure its next long-term mandate.
